Bromley Lawn’s club Championships are one of the highlights of the tennis calendar.
Summer tournaments
The highlight of the BLTC tournament year are our Open and Handicap competitions which are open to all members. Typically the Handicap events start at the end of April, with our Open events starting at the end of May. Entry forms are distributed by the Club office and are widely available. To encourage members to participate it’s a flat £5 to enter for one or all events; if you need a partner we’ll try and find you one.
The Tennis Committee collate the entries, set the ‘play by’ dates for each round, decide seedings /Handicaps, then do the draw- be aware: you will find yourself ‘reminded’ if you don’t play your matches within the schedule!
Open tournament
There are singles, doubles, veterans and junior events in which to compete: something for everyone Three set format, no Champ tiebreaks and the finalists all competing for titles on Open Finals Day in July
Handicap tournament
There are singles and doubles events in which to compete: the idea is that stronger players will compete with a tougher handicap (scoring points to get to ‘love), and less strong players enjoy an easier handicap (e.g. +30, two points only required to win a game). This should even standards out and make for long close matches!
Three set format, no Champ tiebreaks and the finalists all competing for titles on Handicap Finals Day in June
Winter tournament
Our newest event is the Winter Tournament where we have three events at present. This is proving very popular and starts in October culminating on Winter Finals Day in March.
These tournaments offer tennis for all abilities, a chance to play some of the club’s best players, test out your concentration in a handicap match and above all have fun!
Each of the finals days are social events when members and family come and support the finalists: the bar is open and typically there’s food.
So don’t ask yourself ‘should I enter BLTC tournaments?’ … ask yourself ‘why wouldn’t I ?!!’
